I was too unlucky in the first few days in Kyoto. I went to at least three or four vegan restaurants in a row, they are all closed. It’s all because I didn’t do a well research and Kyoto is not like Hong Kong. Although it is also busy, the rest time is relatively normal. So when the meal time has been passed, there won’t be any meal provided, so their last order time is pretty early.
In the beginning of my trip, I can only go to those convenience stores to have my vegan meals. There is quite a lot vegan options in Kyoto convenience stores. My favorite one is natto roll! Some people may not like its taste or texture, but I really love it! In addition to rice balls, there are salads and so on! When will Hong Kong’s convenience stores keep up with the vegan trend? !
However, one thing to mention is that Japanese have different views about vegan food. Some may think that fish is also vegan, so be careful when buying food. I asked a Japanese friend to help me write down eggs, milk, fish and how to ask some questions in Japanese, every time when I buy food, I will take out my notes for the staff~
